Diving Officer, CUUEG (BSAC 52)

Depart: Friday 8th August ( 2:00 pm) Return: Sunday 17th August ( 1:00 am ish) Diving: Sunday 10th - Friday 15th (six days) With: Baltimore Diving, Baltimore, Co Cork, S.W. Ireland

Estimated cost: ?555 (This Includes the boat, Accomodation, and transport from Cambridge)

Open to: DLs or above with experience of UK sea diving, 30m+, You'll need to be competent with DSMBs & deco stops, and have done adequate work-up dives.

The current plan, is that we take the Van + car from Cambridge, and a Landrover (8 seats) from Southampton, and meet somewhere en-route. Maybe Swansea, maybe before, and redistribute kit/people. We then take the van + Landrover on the ferry, leaving other vehicles in England/Wales. We then have 1.5hrs drive in Ireland.

Many of the morning dives will be in the 30m+ range. With the exception of the U260, all can be dived at 35m or less. Those with additional depth experience/qualifications will be able to see more of some of the sites though. I've booked with Baltimore Diving. We're using a dayboat, which returns to the harbour between dives, and have shore-based self catering accommodation.

Ireland is blessed with visibility more resembling tropical countries, with 20m+ being the norm in the summer. Water temperatures won't quite make 20oC, but with the Atlantic Gulf Stream, won't be far off. Dive sites should offer a range of depths. Highlights are: Kowloon Bridge: (160,000 tons. sitting in about 36m of water, rising to 6m below the surface. The anchors weighed over 25 tons each.) Fastnet Rock: A pinnacle out to sea in the Atlantic, unencumbered by surface run-off the site is meant to be one of the best scenic dives in the UK. Needless to say, they'll be lots of marine life. U260: A WWII submarine in excellent condition, sits in 45m. (There is a 25m reef nearby, as an alternative)
