I'm originally from Wales and have been living and diving on the Costa Brava for the past 7 years.
The Med is certainly not dead! Even though I often dive the same site several days running, when I'm carrying out research, I still find new critters and behaviour to marvel at.
The Catalan government has been proactive in protecting the vital Posidonia seagrass habitat, which accounts for the high biodiversity here. The Medes Islands have been protected for over 20 years and this year the reserve has been extended up the coast to include one one of my research areas.
I'm so grateful to have chosen this area to semi-retire to! :)
