I live in Dubai.
I have (what they call) highspeed internet.
I have a dynamic IP.

BSAC has consistently shown me that my membership was meaningless to them.

The one piece that generally worked well was the forum. Sure there was occasionally a banned IP message but it usually went away after a brief period of time.

It has lasted 3 days this time. Normally when I send along a message someone replies saying something along the lines of it isn't perfect but we are working on it. This time, messages unanswered.

As I said, I can just throw up a vpn connection and access the forum from Canada, but that requires shutting a number of other programs I am running.

hmmm...seems to be a "me stupid" moment...and a change in how the forum is handling linking....

In my address bar there is a deep linking entry rather than to the root address.
If I click on the deep linked URL I get an IP banned message. If I go to the root address I don't. This is not how the implementation has worked in the past as I often used this method previously.

*shrug*

Actually I just tested this again and it isn't the case....

Right, just checked the IP banning list and there is nothing banned in Dubai or UAE. In fact the only middle eastern country with any bans is Israel.

I suspect that the "ban" is coming from your end rather than this end as UAE is quiet keen on controlling access to web sites.

Thanks for the update...usually it is someone SPAM selling christmas items, which I find particularly humourous...
Though seems odd as if the ban was on this end I wouldn't get a message from the forum software it would be from the nanny servers. :)

It was banned for quite some time, then I opened a vpn to make the posting.
Then when I killed the vpn connection the problem was solved.

Wish I had of checked my IP before and after that....

To my knowledge there is no banning of IP's within the forum software.

Next time you get it can you do a screen grab for me please.

To my knowledge there is no banning of IP's within the forum software. See the admin documentation forum.

IIRC individual IPs were being entered manually directly into the Admin CP. The last time I chased through an access problem for Michael, that's where I found his IP...Which had changed by the time I replied to him.

Banning and reinstating IPs via the Admin CP is very cumbersome, hence I provisioned the new system that you know all about.
