My club has been running a Humber 6.3m diesel rib for the last 3 years which has just lost all compression in one of its cylinders. Its just gone to the menders but our guess is there is hole in one of the pistons. I have heard that this has been a common problem with the mercury diesel and I would be very grateful to hear from any other clubs who have had a similar experience and how it was fixed. Many thanks

John,

Have you asked on ribnet http://www.rib.net/ or any of the other powerboating sites?

Have you tried an endoscope (if you can get one down the glow plug or injector hole.

Oh the joys of working for the NHS and having access to really expensive equipment that you can shove down greasy holes:D
(then wipe clean and shove....... )

Hands up any branches out there who own an endoscope!

(if you have your hand up....WHY?????)

Oh yes...for looking down greasy holes for holes and cracks!:o

John

PS
Apologies if the endoscope referred to is a personal possession and not an NHS one!:o

My dad used to bring them home nothing to do with the NHS or anyother health service.

He used them for water pipe inspection.

Just goes to show that there can be lots of other meanings to the word "endoscopy clinic"

It just struck me (with no other experience of endoscopes but the NHS) as a bit of a leap!

I got a larf out of it anyway!:)
