Hi,
I am coming to the end of my ocean diver training,(soon to start sports) and I am looking for a watch (water resistant to 200m). I am happy to spend ?30 to ?85. Do I go for a cheap Argos type watch, or get something that does a little more and I can keep as a backup even when I have a Sunto D9! Any advice greatly needed, as I am very confused

cheers

Jon

IMHO, if you're prepared to spend upto ?85, I'd wait until I'd saved another ?50 (i.e. ?135 in total) and buy a Gekko

UWATEC depth/timer?
I've never found a watch much good in the water as it is rather hard to read and runtimes require maths.

Thanks for the advice, I have decided to go with the Uwatec depth timer, as it will do a good job for me now, and will last for a couple of years.

Allways go for the UWATEC depth timer, great value. Also acts as a great backup to any computer that you buy later. It should last way longer than a couple of years.

It should arrive today or tomorrow, glad I have made the right decision!

thanks

Just be aware that it shows integer minutes rounded down, so when checking bottom time against tables, it's safer to add a minute to the displayed time, and when doing stops, wait until the elapsed minutes changes before timing the stop.

Indeed.
You can't beat a watch for timing stops.

Huh?

I can't think anything of much worse without getting really silly.
A watch is a bitch to read in the water and requires sums in your poor, error prone head to convert it's readings into anything useful.

Also if your stops need to be timed to the second you are runing way to little conservatism.

YMMV
