just a small update concerning dive trips to Norway.
The ferry from Newcastle to Bergen had been planned to start again last may.
The operator was/is to be Colorline. The problems that has been said, they had was to be with Fjordline agreeing to let colorlne use there dock.
The ferry will start up again know one has a definate date.
My business here as dive operator is finnished but i still have contacts site knowledge and kit.
If a group wants to fly over for ice diving or just a weekend jolly . I can help out organise your trip . That also counts for Narvik.
I do not want payment for my help .
Ice diving best months january / february . Narvik october / November.
Weekend jollys anytime.
Cheap flights from Gatwick to Bergen . www.norwegian.com
Best hotel in Bergen sas radisson 55gbp per night b/b based on two sharing.
Narvik hotels about the same.

Good news on the ferry. Cheap, but near to railway.
I stayed in the bunkhouse in Narvik, here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=narvik+norway&sll=52.696361,2.724609&sspn=40.127132,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Narvik,+Nordland,+Norway&ll=68.439206,17.425529&spn=0.002937,0.009645&t=h&z=17
Can't recall the name of the place though. Couple of minutes walk to the maritime museum too, well worth a visit.

I looked into it clean cheap comfortable. The narvik hotel opposite statoil petrol station works out cheaper because you get a full breakfast.
Museum really good.
What was your favorite dive ?

Oh to be fit enough to do that again, aka the pain/travails of old age.
Many years ago my then wife got a scholarship in French (she's a French teacher here in Oz) so we went to Besancon in the Jura province of France where we discovered the joys of that activity. I think it was our second excursion (the first with our shiny new langlauf skis) when I stopped and said to her "listen to the silence". It was then that we saw the deer (I'm quite sure they'd already noticed us) grazing at the other end of the meadow we were standing on - pure bliss (but me without a camera).

handy being near a statoil petrol station, free coffee once you have brought a mug, lasts until the next mug design is released

My log from Aug 2004;
‘Dronning Maud’ (‘Queen Maud’), Gratangen
This is an excellent wreck - think Rosalie Moller for a warm water equivalent. We drop in from Kyrre’s boat, which is tied to a Swedish hard boat also on the wreck. The line takes us to the bow. We swim around the winches and down onto the deck level. The remains of Bedford trucks are lined up either side of the holds. We swim over them to the mid-ships area, its huge. Then over the next set of holds and more trucks to the stern. Around the stern the wooden slats of seating and wooden rails still remain. The aux. Steering gear and wheel are complete. We swim back to the mid ships and spend some time looking at the huge vent cowls and slowly circle up the smoke stack. Once we get to the top, we head towards the forward mast and make our ascent through a sea of jellies.
Max. depth 32m, 41 minutes, 32%, 8°C

Memories worth more then a photo.
Shame about forgetting camera though :)
