Those international colision reg thingies state you need a "rigid replica" but I've never seen a dive club use on. From that I assume you could coble anything together so as to replica yon "A" flag unless ofcourse your'e American!

err.... so where does the rigid replica come from for a A flag?

Rule 27 Vessel not under command - defined as unable to comply with the international rules for prevention of collision at sea.
Not under comand and making way - Two red lights or two round black balls by day
Not under command an underway - not possible
Not under command and aground 2 red lights and anchor lights or three black balls by day

Vessel restricted in ablility to manoeuver - Diamond ball Diamond by day red white red by night ( plus navigation lights)

Ps I dont need to look this stuff up :-)

What I was asking was where it states in the IRPCS that an A flag need to be a rigid replica.

Regards

David

Ps I think its a good idea but where is it in the rules?

Try Rule 27 (e) ii
(quoted in context)
(e) Whenever the size of a vessel engaged in diving operations makes it impracticable to exhibit all lights and shapes prescribed in paragraph (d) of this Rule, the following shall be exhibited:

i) three all-round lights in a vertical line where they can best be seen. The highest and lowest of these lights shall be red and the middle light shall be white;
ii) a rigid replica of the International Code flag "A" not less than 1 metre in height. Measures shall be taken to ensure its all-round visibility.
