View Full Version : neutral buoyancy
I recall one instructor showed me how to determine amount of weight required to achive neutral buoyancy, without calculating your weight and taking 3% for salt water. It was something akin to bobbing in the water and adding weight to your weight belt until your eye level was at the air/water interface. But I can't remember if this was with or without a tank and with or without air in the bc. I just recall it work very well. Anyone know these details.

+ All your normal euipment
+ No air in BC or Dry suit
+ 50 bar or a little less in your cylinder
Breathe out to sink. Breathe in to bob up.
As a safety measure hold your weightbelt so that you can drop it should you need to ascend quickly. It also makes it easy for the shore party to add and remove weight from the belt. I always do buoyancy checks in around 3m with a tender in the water.
