Will be going to Thailand Febuary 06. There will be two in our party, both Ocean Diver BSAC. We have a ten day trip and want to try and qualify as sports divers in that time, as well as enjoy some dives of our own and maybe chill at some point. Can any one recommend a suitable area to go too, that has good social and accomodation.
Advice welcomed.

Dave,
As most of the diving in the gulf of thailand is around the island of Koh Tao, if your staying on Koh Samoui you will have a minimum transit of around 90 mins each way to the majority of dive sites.
Best bet is to try and stay on Koh Tao. When we go, we tend to stay at Coral Grand Divers. The hotel is located on a beach that is little short of idylic, with a wide range of accomodation to suit most budgets. The dive centre has 2 large boats, and very friendly and helpful dive centre staff.
The hotel i situated on Sairee Beach, with a wide variety of bars and restraunts only a few minuites walk down the beach.
Hope this helps, and you find what you are looking for :D
