Just out of intrest what has been the responce to try dive this year? I ask because last year was for our club fantastic this year there seems complete apathy in our area. We have done the same as last year with posters and advertising. Could the ?10 charge be putting people off?

I don't know if the price is an issue, but it might be that the majority of people in the area who wanted to do a try dive did it with you last year? Of course if you've been doing it every year for the last ten I'm not right!

We have been doing it for a few years now with a steady increase.
email today from HQ said numbers where down so I guess time will tell.

In that case, it's a real shame. I guess you can look at it as a filter for the people who want to try it but have no interest in continuing, but I would rather a load of people turned out as it makes the whole thing a bit more fun.

I ran one for the place where I worked at the time a couple of years ago and it went down really well - perhaps ask members to advertise it in their workplace? None of the people (to my knowledge) continued to get trained, but they all apparently enjoyed the experience...

Best of luck,

Ben

Could the ?10 charge be putting people off?

I done my try with DAGSAC and had no problem with the ?10.00 charge, as fas as I am aware 25 people made the try and no-one griped at the cost. I think it's the best tenner i have spent in quite a while!

My experience is that just as many people have been notified as in any other year (except one year when we made particular efforts) and more than some past events. This is one branch only, so not representative perhaps.

We shall see "on the night", but I suspect the payment of ?10 has possibly weeded out some who would not be a serious prospect anyway.

Thanks, by the way to HQ, who have done a magnificent job.

Mike

Dear All

Firstly many thanks to those of you are supporting and taking part in the Come & Dive campaign. Today, the first day for National Try Dive week, we have 515 people who are taking part. As you are all aware this is the first time we have charged for the campaign. This decision was not taken lightly and has been as a result of feedback from past experience and feedback in the surveys circulated to all branches who took part previously. Last year, although numbers were greater we experienced a high percentage of ?no shows?. The hope is that as people have paid and booked they will be more committed to turning up, taking part and then joining!

We are, of course open to feedback and change if we all feel that by running the campaign in this way has not worked . The best way forward will be to see how all the branches feel when the campaign has finished at the end of this week.

For those of you are involved, please enjoy National Try Dive Week. Don?t forget to send in photos of try dives to odetteb@bsac.com, and send us your branch stories so we can report in Dive Magazine and also on the website.

Many thanks

Mary Tetley

BSAC charged ?10 this year. ?2.50 to them and ?7.50 to the club to cover costs.
Our responce this year was a lady from the BBC contacting me to tell me they could not advertise!

This really irks me. I wish they'd be consistent.
This is hardly product placement.
They won't do a so called 'advert' for BSAC's 'Try Dive 2005', but Steve Wright will read it out on Radio 2, and every time a dopey Blue Peter presenter learns to dive, it's a bloomin' PADI school.
And they teach them to climb out of the pool with all their dive kit on, minus their mask and mouthpiece.
Aaaaarrggghhh!
Once, just once, I like to see one of them fall back in and watch them panic as they fumble for their reg.

All they would do is make it very dramatic and no dowt part of the training exercise! After all it would look fun. Perhaps we could all go along and help push them back in ;-)
