Hi I am just buying my scuba kit now as I am in the middle of ocean diver training, I was advised to take my time with buying and just hire for now but the problem with hireing kit is it is not familiar too you, so as I know at this stage that scuba diving is for me I decided to buy. the question I have is this. I have bought a second hand Posidon jetstreem reg if this is serviced now will it be ok to put it with a posidon octopus or is old and new a no go ?.

Old or new should be OK Mark, but Posidons are slightly strange in that they use a higher inter-stage pressure than most regulators.
Ask you local dive shop who do your servicing, ideally the two regulators should be set up together.

Hi Mark,
Hope you're enjoying the OD course and that its going ok?
I would hire kit for now if you can for two reasons....
1. You'll have a much better idea what type or kit you want/need once you've done some diving and I mean 20dives+ out of the other side of OD, even leave it till you get into SD if you're going straight into that.
2. The Dive show is soon, go there first and see if you can get some good deals if you're buying a whole set sometimes you can barter a good deal... LDS's also trade cheaper around that time.
Lastly, people flog off second hand stuff over the winter (Nov-March) so as we're moving into that time of year it might be a good idea to hold off for now, look on the Buy&Sell section here and e-bay.
But EITHER way take along someone you trust to help you while you're still new, there is alot of "crap" dive gear out there that is pushed on trainees by LDS's and at Dive Shops, don't be taken in, take a seasons old veteran with you and avoid getting stuff that break or be useless to you inside your first season.
All the best,
BEN

Thanks for sound advice I will let the dive shop rig up my regs and tell them to pay special attention to the points you have made. Went on dive trip on Sunday to have first sea dive went down to twelve mtrs and felt a bit nervous I acheived good bouyancy and began to relax my Instructor tapped my arm and pointed over my shoulder I turned to look and there was a seal eyeballing me it swam up to me and looked at me as if to say what are you doing here it stayed with us for a good ten mins My Instructor told me later that I had been very lucky to come into contact with a seal on my first sea dive. What a fantastic feeling to see and interact with a wild creature I have been smiling like a kid since Sunday, at 41 years old I thought I had experianced most things in life but this was beyond words. I hope I can get through my O/D training soon and begin my S/D training but I will take it as it comes as the Instructors at my branch (Harrogate) are more than safe and instruct you at your pace they will not sign of the lessons if you have not done them to the letter which is ok by me as safety is paramount.BSAC BRILL. :=:=Hi I am just buying my scuba kit now as I am in the middle of ocean diver training, I was advised to take my time with buying and just hire for now but the problem with hireing kit is it is not familiar too you, so as I know at this stage that scuba diving is for me I decided to buy. the question I have is this.
