Hi,
First up - Keith the new forums look grand! Well done on getting it this far - any idea of a launch date?
Haven't really tried much yet to see if it all works - but what's with all the "Junior" stuff  . I think I'm right in believing that the majority of the regulars here haven't been called that since they started secondary school! And that may have been a quiet while ago for some of them :D .
Looks like the emoticons work fine. I'll stop now before I break it.
Cheers,
Tristan

Live Date : Depends what you lot think - a week or so? Discuss.
"Junior" : It's and automatic thing depending on the numer of posts you've made. We could turn it off but if you want to suggest some better names and limits then let's change it.
Breakage : Please DO break it :) I'd rather it where broke now whilst we're testing it. There's several bugs, glitches and permissions problems lying around - they just need finding and tuning out.
Cheers

The site is a HUGE improvement on the old one.
I do prefer junior to NOVICE 1 Novice 2 though!

Just testing the forum.
Any chanbce of a spulling chicker??
If I want to make it to Sports Poster, would I need to have posted in a forum outside this one, and would I need to limit my posts to 35 words until I make the next grade?

User Titles are easily configurable, here's the default that we have now -
Junior Member : 0
Member : 30
Senior Member : 100
I don't like the 'junior' bit either, the 'member' bit is confusing as well. Think of something somebody!

how about
Newbie for under 30 posts
Deck Hand for 30-100 (not too sure about this one)
Salty Sea Dog for over 100
or let someone ask for a personal one if they want theirs changing

How about:
"First time poster" = 0
"Still new here" = 1-30
[brain isn't working]
"Should know better" = 1000+
Come on! Someone must be able to think of something better than "Member".
And another thing - I'm not that sure about the "Member to Member" forum name either. It sounds a bit odd to me (or maybe I'm just a bit odd - maybe I'll check with finless).
Cheers,
Tristan

Just a thought - and not one that I'm particularlly attached to - I'm not sure if it is a feature that is necessary... can it be switched off? A lot of the new things on this forum look great, but if something doesn't really add something then maybe it doesn't need to be here? It's not immeadiatly clear to me that it does something useful...
If not, how about just two levels:
New Member (0-10)
Member (10+)

But I want people to think I'm a really great person and If I post a lot I'll have a level higher than theirs, then I'd look great wouldn't I?
:D
Or just a sad git who has no mates so talks to people he's never met about something he's knows even less about...
Nah, bin these silly member titles if possible. I don't think they matter anyway.
Hmmmm....
I could always just change my avatar to say how great and super I am....

A BSAC forum should not distinguish between people based on "Post counts" "Greenies" or "Forum Titles"
I suggest we remove all of these.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that.
As a veteran of several other fora, post counts are quite useful, as are official titles (knowing who is an admin or mod is sensible, especially as they
may 'do things' to threads and posts, also you know if you are argueing with, for want of a better word, the 'authorities' or just another poster).
Also post counts let you see who is a new/casual or established poster. Titles are not so useful (and whimsical names might put off some people, as might ones that can be confused for diving grades), but a post count is very useful, is a poster a newbie to be welcomed? If a post is inflammatory is it form a regular makeing a controverisial point or from a recently register troll and not worth your time? Questions like these can be partly answered by looking at a post count or reputation.
Just my 2p.

Hi Ian
We've had this discussion and solved it, see http://new.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=233 - as a BSAC member you can set whatever title you like! :)
