View Full Version : New Website Facility
Keith, et al.
I have been thinking that with the website being further developoed, what would be rather nice is a mamoth database of dive sites. It would be an incredibly useful tool for trip planning!!
I envisage something whereby users would be able to both submit their own site details, and could search the archive of sites also.
The two questions, I suppose, are:
1) Would this be useful to anyone?
2) Would you (the people out there) submit the details of your favourite dives sites??

It's been done before, several times, but could we do it better? If you guys think that you can then be my guest, this is something that the Travel Club folks may well be interested in as well.
This isn't something that I'm going to put on my 'To Do' list, I'm trying to cut that down a bit ;-) BUT... we have a new stonking great web server being commissioned right now, latest OS, full PHP, MySQL etc. etc. If any of you folk would like to have a crack at it then you are welcome to the server space. Maybe we could do this with a customised forum system or some kind of customised Open Source blog or CMS or the like? I just don't know - but if anybody out there does then feel free to chip in.

One of the aims of the BSAC Travel Club is to build such a database of dive sites, both in the UK and overseas. If you go to the Travel Club section (either from the Home Page or via the Forums) click on "Where to Dive". The UK has it's own section - that appears first - and takes you to an intro page with a clickable map. You can search for existing overview descriptions and trip reports, by area and location. Other countries are listed by area.
You can submit your own reports on known sites or holiday areas for anywhere in the World. In fact, we encourage you to do so, and pay a ?15 Mailshop voucher for your trouble - details are on the pages. Please help us to develop what is fast becoming an unrivalled resource.
