Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get a 1984 US Divers Conshelf 20 serviced?

Also a late 1980's Spiro Club?

Are service kits still going to be available for these?

Fingers-crossed.

David.

Regs this old tend to use standard O rings and parts. You should be able to get them serviced easily. If your LDS will not its because they want to sell you new kit!!

Try the link if you have problems

I do but do not think your reasoning (light hearted banter like that can not be mis read)to pull the plug is all that good, but then you have the final say on what goes on and what does not.
Censorship I think its called

You can call it what you like. I have made it clear to you before and AGAIN by private email on this occasion that insults between friends should be kept to private email and off of these forums. Outsiders to these public forums may not know the background and consider such insults to be "normal practice".

That is my decision, it has not changed over the years, it is not going to change now. If you want to throw public insults at your friends then you are not going to do it on these forums. You are free to go elsewhere if you do not accept that decision. It is not a matter for debate.

Elsewhere seems to be where most of the people who posted on this site have gone

When I first started looking at this forum about 6 or 7 years ago it was filled with friendly banter along side valuable and helpful debate

now that the sense of humour has been removed the numbers of participating members has fallen off

to the extent that there were only
4 new threads on the instructors forum and
9 new threads on the club matters forum
3 new threads on the in depth forum for the month of June
it seems that most people have now taken that advice

Friendly banter is censored but publicaly criticising people and have slanging matches with others leading up to election for chair is OK

Thats your policy then is it

No, Mark, faulty analysis I'm afraid.

Inane commentary and wilful misrepresentation that still obtains here, despite Keiths best endeavours, might just have led some to observe but avoid contributing.

Beside which, now is the time to be diving.

Fact does not match your perception Mark. In the last 12 months on the forums site alone visitors are up 13%, pages viewed up 30% and data transfered up 100%.

Trouble is that sometimes the hot air becomes a healthy release
valve. Without it a fora often becomes very dull and grey.

By all means advocate control on the basis of fora etiquette
etc, but go to far and it becomes, well just boring.

Most of us are passionate about our sport, so let's not
stifle that passion too much eh?

Some years ago Mark, you made a loud and unfounded accusation against me on these forums because you completely misread the thread and accused me of a comment that was actually made by someone else. I didn't at the time think it was worth dignifying it with a reply so I said nothing, later on someone else stepped in and corrected you and all you did was say (and I'm quoting from memory):

"OK sorry."

Not to me though.

Had you had the decency to make as loud an apology as your accusation was I would have been an awful lot happier, but frankly that kind of thing has affected me posting on these forums, and over the years I've posted a lot less because it's not worth getting into arguments with people who I've never met and who can't keep a civil tongue in their heads.
The problem with chucking insults around is that sometimes you insult the wrong person and I dare say you don't even remember doing it, nevertheless I haven't forgotten.

Sense of humour removed from the forum? Not by Keith.

If I had that much effect on you for what I said on a forum then
I am truly sorry
but if you have really let it worry you all this time I think its time you moved on I really do

No, it's not true.

And besides - Keith's statistics above are directly from the Apache logs. The data transfer figure would have been even higher, except that we implemented inline compression a few months ago, which reduces the amount of data transferred for certain browsers (and caused Andy all sorts of grief - sorry, mate!)

I'm not interested in reading the hot air that appears on other forums, it detracts from the subject matter.

I'm not sure - whatever post numbers say, these BSAC forums definitely seem quieter. Maybe its just more posts in less threads, often pointlessly debating nothing? In any case the thing that makes forums *not* worth reading is threads like this - watching people arguing over very little in public rather than privately via e-mail or whatever.

I have to say, I don't even consider these as "diving" forums anymore, just "BSAC" forums. Other than things that are directly related to BSAC (ie BSAC's training, BSAC council, BSAC clubs, etc) I wouldn't even think to post a question here. That might be the intention, these forums are afterall "BSAC" forums and it might be nice to keep them strictly on-topic and almost "corporate". There certainly isn't the friendly feeling from posts here though compared to many others, which is a bit of a shame really.

There is still the odd interesting or useful thing posted, which is why I keep looking occasionally.

Maybe not any better or worse than anywhere else - just "different"! After all, you say you like having the rather strict "on-topic" feeling (although probably not how you'd describe it), and so I suppose many others will too.

David

PS - I realise the inherent contradition in saying that this type of thread is pointless by adding to it!

Thanks for that, it's much appreciated.
I'm sorry but I can't find the post, maybe the archives don't go back far enough? I think it was on a medical matter so would have been on the 'In Depth' Forum I think. Anyway I didn't voice a complaint so you wouldn't have known what effect it had on me at the time.

but if you have really let it worry you all this time I think its time you moved on I really do

Well I haven't let it worry me actually, what it has done though is make me not read a lot of your posts over the subsequent years, I guess you could say I 'censored' you. Or maybe what you said made me do that.... ? Pheeeww, that's a bit deep.
Anyway.
Rightly or wrongly, my perception of you was marred by what happened, was that unfair to both of us? I don't know.

Anyway, I haven't so much 'moved on', as 'moved off' the forum.
You might be right about them being quieter though, or at least they do seem to be.
I lurk here almost every day, but rarely post. I used to post answers to questions all the time and enjoyed contributing, Hey, I even got a few right!
;-)
On the whole I think I've just burned out with forums generally, partly through frustration and partly because I have other more pressing interests.
There are people's names on here that I remember from when the very first BSAC forums were online, (The ones before the ones before these ones - back in the days of 'Harpo') Most of these people post a lot less than they did. Even Vic used to post regularly... ;-)

All the Best

And the same to you Mark. Safe diving.

Fair call. It is useful to have a BSAC problems page but just as the 'In Depth' forum gets one post a month (allegedly) who would ask a tech question here? I know BSAC is trying to generate tech courses although I haven't worked out why yet.

However it is no loss having the BSAC site 'squeaky clean' as there are lots of other places we can go and be irreverent, other places we can talk about tech diving and, darn it, other places where we can tell jokes.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to be friendly, if we try or have a bit of banter your posting gets removed just in case it gives people the wrong impression or at least that was the reason I was given last week

I don't know how often you visit this forum but I certainly didn't expect to get an honest answer judging by its history. but then thats part of the fun pointing that out to people is it not. Anyway this has been done to death now and the censors have gone quiet and refused to answer so I think its time to move on
