Just in case there are people out there as "IT challenged" as me!
(I thought I was doing quite well...with an avatar, signature and changed title!)

If you want to quote just part of another post then press the "quote" button (bottom right) to reproduce the whole thing - and then cut out the bits you don't want to quote from the reply window that is generated.

BUT...remember not to delete the bits at the beginning and end that say "Quote"...otherwise tou don't get the pretty inset window in your post.

Maybe someone will be able to explain how to quote from two separate posts?

Copy and paste I guess?

Hi there,

Blah bla blah blah.

WillieI opened both posts in different windows, then clicked 'Quote' on both for a reply, then copied and pasted one block of quoted text (between the tags) into the other, then added my replies.

If you look in the editor you will see that the quoted text has

tags around it.
You can get the same result by just typing the tags into the editor.

this will be quoted

On Windows systems you can copy text by selecting it and pressing [CTRL]+[C] and paste using [SHIFT]+[INSERT] which saves reaching for the mouse.

All of the stuff like quotes is done by something called vB Codes, special codes that you can embed into a message to do things. It's covered in more depth in the FAQ, see http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode

When you are posting/replying you have a choice of editors, your default one is set via your User CP to your own prefence. You can also switch editor modes in the Advanced editor so that you can see text or layout.

Running Mozilla on Linux does the same.

I was going to report on how to do it with Lynx[1], but I haven't been able to get the fora running with it :-(

Vic.

[1] It does surprisingly well, hactually - I can browse the fora, I can log in - but it complains that I'm not logged in when I try to post. I'll give it another go later when I've got more time...

Ah - looks like there's just some strangeness with logging in.

Waddayaknow - vBulletin works (mostly) with Lynx. And you use [SHIFT]+[CTRL]+C to copy, [SHIFT]+[CTRL]+V to paste.
