I am a Dive Leader, but have not dived for 10 years. I am thinking of starting again, and mostly want to dive overseas.
Where do I start!!
How hard/easy is it to get PADI Dive Master certification?

You probably won't want to hear this but my advise would be to start again.... If it comes back quickly a PADi school will no doubt be very willing to part you from yourcash to train yu as a DM.. I think you only need 40 dives to start the coiurse and can be qualified as a DM with 60 dives!!!!

I would start by going to a PADI school and checking where your Dive Leader qualification stands you for embarking upon the Dive Master qualification. Contacting a PADI school is a better way of checking out PADI reqs than a BSAC forum.
I would suggest doing some dives and getting some experience back before embarking upon the course given the 10 year gap

Why do you want to go down the PADI route. If you are a DL and have your QRB to prove it, why not join a club and sit in on DL lectures, or do some SDC's but most of all get out and do some diving.

I had only c. 250 dives, but never had any problems with course content, or application of what I had learnt. I am not however suicidally arrogant to think I can just jump in the water!
The reason I had to give up was:
A. Lack of Cash
B. New career
Now B. has made A. less of a problem, but the only time I am likely to get off is overseas (if all goes well I could be looking at work taking me to suitable locations 6 times a year) . I do not want to retrain anywhere outside of Western Europe though, was thinking of retaking selected DL courses when work permits, and gently getting reacquainted with club diving, again when work permits.
I thought PADI might be more readily accepted outside of Europe/US/tourist Asia - ?? I remember diving in Greece and Malta and PADI schools scratching their heads when confronted with BSAC documentation, so Africa, or non-Tourist Asia might prove a challenge.
BTW - I take your point that a PADI forum was probably the place to take PADI questions :) Sorry.
Thanks for all the advice
