A general warning to everybody.
We dived the Lord Stewart (a south coast wreck out of Teignmouth Dorset)on Sunday. The first group of divers returned safely and reported a <> of monofilament netting down there. The other two of our divers became entangled and freed themselves, but not before one had to ditch his equipment and make a free ascent to the surface. He suffered a bend which has been successfully resolved. Thank heaven for good training !!
If you intend to dive this wreck in the near future, please be extremely careful. You cannot see this netting until you are entangled with it! Some local charter boats may try to clear it over the next week or so, but only if the conditions are right and correct personnel are available. If not then it will be a wreck to check out thoroughly before you venture near it.
Note it seems that this netting has only appeared this year - many of you may have dived it last year when there was no netting down there.

We were on Wave Cheiftan diving the Lord Stewart while the above incident was kicking off. The monofilament is always a problem with this wreck as it is a favorite with the fishing charters in the area. The large trawler net is however new in the last 7 days. Richard Tibbs had divers on there last weekend and they did not see it. As Rob rightly says, some local divers will try to cut the buoys supporting it so as it sinks into the scour at the bottom of the wreck on wednesday night as long as they get the right people on board to do it and can be certain no one else is on the wreck when they do it.
I hope the diver in question is O.K now. It was pretty worrying to watch everything unfold. We surfaced just as he was being picked up out of the water. A slightly concerning point came from the skipper of the RHIB that the casualty was airlifted from who had to ask where he was when asked by the coastguard and when told by the heli pilot to head 270 actually went off north - stress of the situation probably!

Paul,
Thanks for your concern. The diver was recompressed successfully and returned home on Monday morning. His buddy was declared OK though as he had made a normal ascent. On the way back from DDRC they actually met up with the skipper and divers from the RHIB to thank them. They had been back there on Monday morning and managed to recover his kit for him, although he won't be needing it until he has been cleared to dive in 3 months time.
Obviously a BIG thankyou to everybody who assisted on the day.
Kind regards
Rob

I am glad they found his kit for him. I am sure you will make certain Rich Tibbs knows this so they don't go looking for it tonight!
