Hi,
Some people seem to be experiencing some problems making a small enough image to fit the avatar settings so here is how I did it.
I used a bit of software called iZoom - it basically resizes big images to smaller images.
You can download it from here (it's freeware) -

I use it on a Mac, but I see it can be downloaded for a PC as well. It's pretty easy to use - just drag and drop your selected image into the iZoom window - pick your output image size using the "custom size" (max 80*80 pixels for your avatar) - adjust the image in the window to select what you want to crop using the slider at the bottom right and bydragging the image around the window with your mouse - choose the resolution using the export quality slider (so it's smaller than 4 kb) - if you're happy hit the "crop and save" button choose where you want to save the file and it's all done - ready to upload to the forums.
Easy.
Cheers,
Tristan
ps - someone please let me know if this works on a PC as easily as on a Mac.
