Background : We are in the process of commissioning a Win2K web server within a DMZ at BSACHQ. We may have a future requirement for SSL on one or more of the web sites that will be served by this machine.

Are there any members with experience of purchasing, installing and utilising SSL certificates on Win2K servers who would be willing to volunteer their specialist knowledge to the IT Team on this? Within the team we have SSL and Win2K web server knowledge, but none on actually implementing SSL on Win2K servers.

Please email me if you would be willing to lend a hand.

Are we talking IIS here?
If so, it's really not hard:
Right click on the appropriate web site - properties - directory security - server certificate. Follow the nice pretty wizard to make your request, which encodes all of the information into a request file.
Go to verisign (or another similar company), give them the request and some money and they give you back a .cer file. Follow the nice wizard in IIS (same place) to use it.
Keep the .cer file safe and secure.
Done.

(My experience of SSL on IIS is running a self-signed server that I remember the hash for, to securely send files to my own machine - the IIS stuff takes about 5 minutes to work out because it's all in nice little wizards that assume you don't know what you're doing - correct assumption for once!)

Can't help on this one - I am more of a Unix/Apache man, however, if you are looking for some general website help, I am willing to provide some time.

For background: I run the BT London SAC (1771) website ( http://www.london-scuba.com/) and work in publishing.

Drop me a line if you think I can help.
