Is anyone else on here NAUI trained? i've only ever found one other UK diver (besides those i trined with on Utila...) who has a NAUI qualification... Where are they all?? :p
If I was looking for all the people from the National Association of Underwater Instructors for North America then north America would be fairly high on the list of places to start looking...

You come across quite a few out here in Asia. Generally quite well respected qualifications
Dave
Not only north America.........
NAUI is bigger in Oz (where's Christian when you want him?) and also on the Continent, ie Netherlands.
Every NAUI diver I've come across has been well trained and tends to be thorough.

G'Day, Roz. I hope that I'm not pre-empting Christian's insights but .... Because the NAUI membership consisted, largley, of enthusiastic 'volunteers', it became fallow here in OZ for quite some period. However, there is - again - an enthusiastic following intent on ressurecting it. (They even offer a 'Standard Diving Dress' Specialty ... for those who want to experience what the 'good old/bad old' days were really like.) :-)

Indeed, they do. And i agree with you. :-)

One of my favourite people in SCUBA, the redoubtable Bob Halstead (http://www.halsteaddiving.com/), lateral thinker extraordinaire, was (since retired) a NAUI Instructor and, quite possibly, all the better for it. His boat, Telita, was generally acknowledged as the finest liveaboard and its guest list was a who's who of the dving (and photographing) world.
Another of my favourite people in SCUBA is Larry "Harris" Taylor Ph.D. (http://www.mindspring.com/~divegeek/), also a NAUI Instructor.
Is there a trend forming here?

You'll be pleased to know that Bob - who's crossed over to the dark side and is now a PADI Instructor - is still leading dive expeditions. "We" did a trip with him earlier this month aboard Febrina. :)

I was kinda gearing it more towards UK divers... though i'm glad to hear it's so popular elsewhere! And speaking onlt from my experiance, I found the NAUI divemaster much more of a challange than my PADI one, and I think i'm a better diver now because of it... though i wouldn't fancy my chances with the underwater swim test at the moment! :p

NAUI iirc went completely busy some 15-20 years ago then reformed. There are places in N. America and a smaller number in asia.
AFAIK there are NO NAUI schools, shops or active instructors in europe at all outside Scandanavia.
