HI
Thanks for the pointer but I have tried the web site but the email system does not work.
Ive tried finding a technisub supplier but the ones ive looked at have not had the bulbs for sale just the torches.
Are there any web sites where i can get the bulb from.??
steve p:rolleyes:
Hi guys
Just to let you know the bulbs are £10 + postage .
I have therefore removed one battery (to make it 6 volt) then bought two 10mm spade connectors from Halfords with a bit of wire to make a connection between the contacts where the battery was removed.
Then bought a 6v 10w bulb from Maplin for £3.50 and its sorted.
I admit the reduction in wattage from 18w to 10w but its much cheaper and bulbs will be easily available.
QED
:D
Out of interest what voltage was the torch before the battery was removed and brought it down to 6 volts??
I would take a guess at 7.5 volts and if so then a standard 6 volt bulb should work a treat. I say this because most voltages in batteries are nominal. eg your car has a 12 volt battery but really it is about 13.5v, drops down to 11.5v quite quickly and charges at about 14.2v . yet all car bulbs are quoted as 12 volt
Another point of intrest is that your torch is water cooled so the bulb can run harder. But just to make life a little more difficult, batteries today are made from all manner of exotic materials so their open circuit voltage and internal resistance varies from type to type and that is a good enough reason for not mixing battery types.

Hi Terry
The torch has 5 "D" type batteries so 1 missing brought it down to 6v.
I was looking for the best way out to get at least a half decent torch which if the bulbs blow at least it wont cost me a bomb to get another one. Many suppliers dont have the bulbs and have replied to one of my question with >>>
"We do not have it on stock, also checked with technisub holland. They do not have it as well and would need to be ordered from the US and would take about 6-8 weeks.
Regards,
Lucas Divestore"
NB cost about 16$ and postage
I have used duracell batteries so should last.
If you know of any where I can get a 6v 18w or close to it I would be greatful.

If you feed 7.5 v into a 6v bulb it may shorten the life of the bulb. However on the other hand your torch is water cooled so why not try it. The worst that can happen is that the bulb fails and the best is that you get a brighter light.
Of course you do carry a spare torch !!
One of my very old fork lifts was designed to run on 72v DC but I always had problems with overcharging and battery life so a year or so ago I increased the battery voltage to 84v ( I added another 200 amp hour,12 volt battery). Now I have a lower charge rate, battery temp is lower and relays jump in faster. All in all a better machine that was originally built about 30 yrs ago which I was given as scrap.
A few years ago "we" used to run 3 phase motors at 50/60 htz but today with inverters we can run that same motor at almost any frequency that we like. It all comes down to what is sensible and what is practical and I would say that 7.5v is practical.

Terry
