Thought I'd share this with the BSAC forum. Having finally got around to doing my sports diver exam.

My wife got this tip from a hospital training course last week.
Apparently the hospital porters (who do just about as much CPR as the nursing staff) hum "Nellie the Elephant" whilst performing it.
Why?
It keeps it at the right tempo, pumping on each beat and by the time you get to the final trump, trump , trump. You are on 13, 14 ,15 respectively. ----Two breaths.
Having learned CPR in three different countries I always get confused between 15-2 5-1 etc. etc.
At least this way I won't forget.
Probably best to hum it in your head on a real one though...

LMAO!
Excellent!
Now all I have to do is get the tune out of my head, or else I'll be humming it all day.

Strangely, we were discussing this a couple of weeks ago.

There's another one... Though this one definitely should not be hummed / sung out loud...

Evidently Queen's "Another one bites the dust" works!!!

The first two lines of "Match of the Day" works too

Oh yeah....!

I first learnt this on a First Aid at work course 2 years ago, the instructor used it to teach the kids CPR and i couldn't stop laughing.

All i could picture was some poor guy keeling over in a shopping cantre and a cute little blode lass with curly hair running over and doing CPR whilst singing nelly the elephant.

Sorry, just had to share that. The memory's brightened my day anyway

Back to work now

Ahhh, I thought that was already fairly common. Maybe it should be added to the official BSAC syllabus for First Aid... "1) Teach principles of CPR. 2) Teach Nelly the Elephant. 3) Practice run of CPR routine......."
