I think at present the best way you can support the people affected by the Tsunami (until the clearing and rebuilding of communities is well under way) is by thought and prayer.
The reason I say this is because my brother flew out to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, against advice, to try and find my sister and her fiance who at the moment are still missing (for which I am struggling), He is in constant contact with us all here in the UK and he says that it has been utter chaos over the last few days as more and more people are arriving wanting to help but with resources almost non existant, they are struggling, so until the level of resources has increased there is probably very little you would be able to do as each day more people (mostly military personnel) arrive to offer support.
I think it is very admiral that you offer your support but your physical support is possibly best saved for the coming months when rebuilding really gets underway.
I am thankful that we have people like yourself on this planet who are prepared to think of others before themselves.

I've just returned from one of the countries affected by the tsunami, and agree with everything Barb has said. Having been brought to safety by some Seychellois people, several in my party wanted to try and help with the local clean-up operation, but there was very little practically we could do. This will be even more the case in the most severely affected areas, as Barb has indicated.
I've spoken to my colleagues in the British Red Cross (I'm also a BRC volunteer), and if people are able to pledge money, this really is the best way we can help the Red Cross and the other organisations within the DEC to bring relief to the affected areas. You can get in contact with the DEC by phone or email, or you can pay money in at most high street banks.
