I'm hoping some kind soul could point me in the direction of some information I cannot find...just would like to know approximately how many dives are conducted in and around the UK per year, reason...none other than idle curiosity.

I think you will be out of luck. Certainly the Club I am with (orig SAA and now unaffiliated) has never been required to supply annual dive statistics.

Maybe BSAC collects this info for its own members?

I had a search on Google but nothing cropped up.

I have heard the figure of around 5 million dives per year banded around in the past. This figure was used to compare how many incidents there were compared to dives. Don't know how anyone would get that figure and there is no way to know how accurate it is, so I think it is a stab in the dark estimate.

I know for a fact, that from 1/1/04 to present day that

2261 dives were carried out from my boat.

But thats charters and private dives.


5 million dives around the UK . nah , doubt it .

Wonder how many divers use Gildenburgh, Stoney Cove and other inland sites during the year and how many dives that divers do per trip?
