View Full Version : Buying a torch
I am looking to buy a torch for nooks and crannies in low light and night diving. I live and work in Saudi Arabia so the Red Sea environment gives you an idea of the conditions/visability I'm looking at. I like the sound of the Tektite LS 5 200 lumen, however the bumf on it states it has a narrow 10° beam. Is this generally a good thing for night dives or should I be looking for a wider beam? Also, 200 lumens, sounds good compared with others on the market but I don't want to scare all the sealife I've come to look at, away with something resembling a searchlight. Looking at around the £100 mark if you have any recommendations, thanks.
I've got an LS5 and I've used it in the Red Sea. It's ace. The 10° is only the centre spot- there is an area of overspill round it too.
Thoroughly recommended. And that's not just cos I bought one. It's pretty much "standard issue" in our club and everyone loves them.
Ditto to wot woz said.
I've got one and it's the mutts nuts. Great for banging stuff over the head with too as it is a very solid piece of kit.

Torch depends a lot on your budget. And availability where you are!
200 lumens isnt a lot. I use it on my SL6 backup its not enough for my liking for wrecks or night diving. Im going more for 800 lumen beams or so for a main light.
