Hi keith

what about a dive buddies wanted section, there isn't anything in the dive trips etc specific for it and it's useful if you want a dive, have no-one to go with and are looking for a buddy

Hmmm... dive trips I was going to do with a custom calendar (not set up yet) that branch officers had access to, there's also going to be ones for SDC, ITS, BSAC and that type of thing. For anything like that with a date on it a calendar is probably a better option.

But you've just given me an idea - how about a general calendar for ordinary forum members where you can post private trips and buddy wanted things? But I'm open to suggestions here, if people think we need a 'Buddies Wanted" forum then let's have one - what and where?

Discuss.

Hi Keith

The buddies section works well on YD

It's not for pre planned events. It's the sort of thing like:-

"anyone fancy going for a dive to the Cape this Sunday, I want to try out some new kit and I've no-one to go with"

Someone who also fancies a dive may reply, or a group who have already planned to go may invite the lone diver along.

Keith,
i second Steve opinion, that makes it easier for the international members to find someone wanting to dive without a specific date in mind.
Like a dive dating service one could say.:D

Regarding the calender option how does that work if i as a member & instructor living in KSA want to find out what the branch in OMAN or Kuwait is planing or even better what the regioanl team is up to.
Finding there post in all the "UK" staff would be a bit hard, that is hoping that the would post it here.

Sounds like an International or Non-UK members/instructors area required Keith.

I've added a 'Buddies' forum, that the type of thing you were thinking of?

I don't really want to spawn too many forums for starters - split them when they get too busy by all means, but if you start off with too many you have a handful of posts rattling around in a barren wilderness. For that reason I'm against the idea of a separate 'International' forum - we're all one club!

Calendars are slightly different, we can have as many as those as we like and they amalgamate into one 'What's On' list. So if it would help our overseas members to have (say) ITS events split into separate UK and Overseas calendars then that's no problem. I don't really want to go as far as separate calendars for each region as in the UK it would make it difficult for members to find an SDC in a nearby region!

So how's that sound? You can have a dedicated 'Overseas' calendar (think of a good title) if you want one, they you wont have to trawl UK events and the UK wont have to trawl overseas ones - but they all combine into a global 'What's On'
