Looking at buying a Mares nemo wide DC. Anyone advise me on the pro's & cons. Thanks.
Judging by it's popularity I think I might give it a miss................

Might be wise! What was it that particularly attracted you, there might be others out there that have similar features that people have used?
I usually recommend looking at the cheapest one that will fill your needs. Apeks Quantums are cheap and cheerful, with a display that I think would be almost as easy to read. They've had a bad press with reliability, but generally problems with the later versions are fixed with a battery change...

Apex Quantum, Aladdin Pro, Sunnto Gekko (my choice!) - all excellent (i'm told by those that dive them!) - my choice of Gekko was governed by the fact most buddies in our club had either gekko's or vipers - and diving with someone with the same algorythm is easier to compare stops, bottom time etc......
EDIT :- by the way, only once came across a diver using a nemo wide - that was an american who i dived with in croatia - it looked good, and they seemd to like it!!

To be honest I only have a budget of about £200. I had been looking on e-bay and was heading along the Geko route and I happened to look on the deep blue website where they are advertising the wide reduced from £350 to £199. Sounds like a bargain but no one I know has had one so I thought I'd ask the rest of the world.......... you know the rest.
Thanks, Jed

Can't help with that model but I have a mares M2 and find it perfectly acceptable and reliable albeit I only do fairly straightforward (but frequent) diving with it.
It cost me a whole £99 a couple of years ago.
Aladin Prime or Tec 2G, Ive heard they dont make the prime anymore so you might get a bargain, the Gekko is ill equipped on the Deco side of things with a small black window indicating deco or no stop times and with other task loading could lead to stops being missed.

Gekko's display is much the same as the Vyper's/Vytec; nice and clear no stop time and/or ceiling/stops if required. Can't see how anyone would miss the fact it'd gone into deco. Personally I think it's an ideal first computer.
The manual is here

it's being replaced with the Zoop so there many be a few bargains about.

Are you in a club? what do your buddies use? It is better if you and your buddy are usind the same computer as you will both have roughly the same no stop times/decco. Most of my club use Suunto's they are reliable cheap and do not have a reputation for bending people.
If I was looking for a basic computer I would buy a Viper, but I want something that I can use in gauge mode.
Graham.
Gekko's .... is being replaced with the Zoop so there many be a few bargains about.
That explains why I could very little difference between the two
Thanks for all the advice guys. Like most things it's going to boil down to personal choice. I've had lots of talks with people in my club about the computers they use. I just hoped someone might have come across the Mares wide.
Once again, many thanks, Jed

I found that if looking second hand there is not much difference price wise between a Vyper and a Vytec (at least that was the case when I was looking last year on ebay).
As such I got a Vytec, gives you gauge mode and gas switching underwater. Though it depends if you think you will use these features in the future.
Someone over on YD was flogging a Gekko for £80 recently
