The BSAC Travel team are constantly looking for new travel reports and would appreciate snorkelling reports, with or without photos, from both the UK and overseas to add to our database.

Reports written for divers by divers!

Eddie,

Is there any guidance for the rating of dive sites to match BSAC Snorkel Grades? It is relatively easy to rate a site for BSAC Scuba Grades on the basis of depth and water conditions.

A reading of Admin Information A.14 would indicate the following ranking.

BSAC Basic Snorkel Diver is probably restricted to snorkelling in the resort/hotel swimming pool.

BSAC Snorkel Diver probably could probably swim/duck dive in open water in ‘pristine conditions’ in the tropics. However, this would require supervision by ‘qualified’ personnel. The likely sites will be reef tops in 3 to 5 m deep water.

BSAC Ocean Snorkel Diver appears to be the minimum grade for most snorkelling activities in most localities. However, there is no indication of maximum depths for this grade or for the BSAC Advanced Snorkel Diver grade. My feeling is that a maximum depth of 10 m could be assumed.

Any comments?

Regards

OMG! Things have all got soooooooooo difficult these days:rolleyes:

I can make no comments at all on the above as I have no current expertise. A while ago we just jumped in and did it :p .

Any snorkel instructors willing to advise?

Hi Eddie,

The thing that struck me was the amount of coral debri that was laying around.
