Dear BSAC members

The following is the text of a letter from the Executive of WASAC to all Welsh divers ?

STARTS =============

Notice of a Special Meeting to discuss the future role and function of WASAC. To be held at Pembrokshire Yacht Club, Gelliswick, Milford Haven on Saturday the 21st August 2004 at 7 p.m.

The Welsh Association of Sub Aqua Clubs has experienced a difficult period resulting in criticism from a number of clubs mainly due to problems that clubs are currently experiencing obtaining grant funding,

In order to seek a solution to the problems and allow clubs to express their opinions a meeting has been arranged for the above date. Interested Clubs are asked to send a representative to the meeting to express their clubs view on how the problems can be resolved, It is not acceptable to just criticise what has happened in the past, clubs need to show what commitment they have and what support they are prepared to provide to resolve the problems that currently face Sub aqua clubs in Wales.

I would urge as many clubs as possible to support the meeting by attending. However it is possible that some clubs may not be able to attend and they may wish to pass their comments or offers of support and assistance to the meeting this could include being prepared to become members of the associations executive committee by writing to Peter Crocombe, 28 Austin Avenue, Porthcawl, CF36 5RS , by e-mail to <a href="mailto:crocombe@globalnet.co.uk">crocombe@globalnet.co.uk</a> or phoning on 01656 782809.

ENDS =============

The BSAC would like to add the following note about this meeting ?

The BSAC welcomes this new initiative from WASAC and they continue to have the full support of the club. We would like to encourage our clubs and members to assist with this re-launch of WASAC so that this unique (within the UK) association of diving clubs can continue to represent the interests of Welsh divers.

Having experienced problems ourselves in the past we would like to echo the desire of WASAC that this be a positive meeting. Our own members have helped the BSAC enormously by working together to solve problems rather than re-visiting past history, we hope that you can offer some of your dedication and enthusiasm to WASAC to become involved and look forward to a positive future.

Signed on behalf of the BSAC -

Phil Harrison : BSAC Chairman
Keith Lawrence : BSAC Council Member

Hi Khaled

This is not our doing! We have been talking to people, liaising, keeping in touch - but the driving force for this meeting is WASAC itself and their desire to resolve the situation for the benefit of all Welsh divers. We support WASAC in their efforts and the very least we can do is ask that our members hear them out and assist in sorting things out.

As I have been saying all along the solution is with the Welsh divers, we cannot do this for them, but we fully support WASAC and will assist if we can.

Regards

Oh yawn, to the best of my understanding WASAC is mearly a recognised body by the welsh assembly with no controling powers of its own. BSAC is the governing body for recreational diving in Britain, apart from Scotland, and Wales....
So the British Sub Aqua Club is actually the governing body for English diving then??
How about we ditch the alphabet soup and just stick with ONE BRITISH governing body?
This debacle is only down to the divide and conquer mentality of devolution and the bunch of [REMOVED] that so few people voted in favour of.
Oh I am Welsh by the way.

That is a matter for your MP/Assembly Member, it is not a matter for the BSAC or for these forums. There is nothing that we can do about it and we have to work within the framework as laid down by the politicians.

That's the way that it is, put up with it - we have to.

Thanks for your thread informing people of this meeting but it is a pity that the WASAC have not been as informative as yourselves. I know our club has been informed of the meeting but the two other clubs nearest to my branch (1 BSAC and 1 SAA)have not. I have not named them but can if you wish. How does an organisation expect people to support it and then expect others such as yourself to advertise for them. By the way there has not been any such announcement on the SAA site. I am not having a winge but telling it as I see it and more importantly also giving a quick reminder to those intending to attend
