i am about to move to the USA.
i am a dive leader and want to carry on diving in the US.
what if any problems am i likely to face regarding qualifications and acceptability to dive there?
As a BSAC diver, I have had absolutely no problem validating my qualifications to dive in the USA. I have dived numerous times in Florida and California with PADI affiliated outfits, who have been only concerned to see my logbook (or C-card!) and learn about my diving history. You don't say where you are moving to, but I can assure you you'd be welcome with open arms, Americans love BSAC divers. Just make sure that your log book is current and up to date with your qualifications signed off by your DO, and that you maintain your BSAC membership (perhaps moving to BSAC Direct if that makes it cheaper for you than staying with your branch if you are no longer an active member of that branch). I would also urge you to contract a solid third party liability insurance and dive accident cover, which you can contract in the UK for worldwide diving events at a very reasonable cost. Medical emergencies are very costly in the USA, and robust third party liability insurance is a must. Perhaps you should consult BSAC HQ in respect of your dive medical, or consider having one done in the USA.
Enjoy your new life, and new diving!
