I need a portable compressor for a marine biological survey in the Thanet area (yes, Thanet)at teh end of July - does anyone know where i can hire one? I am based in Scotland & there will be people travelling from various parts of teh UK to the glorious blue waters of Thanet, so we could pick up almost anywhere, or arrange a courier.

Many thanks!

A google.co.uk search for "portable diving compreeors for hire" produced 790 results. One should be the right one for you.

Last time I hired I got it from a place near Preston (sorry, the name escapes me...but I'll keep looking for details for you)

Submarine Manufacturing Products (SMP) is probably who you're thinking of, just off the M55 between Preston and Blackpool.

Last year they were quoting me (text copied from an old e-mail):

Most interesting one (?) for club use:

SMP's own manufacture, in a box girder frame.
7 cfm (said would fill an empty 12l to 232 bar in 9 mins)
Size 102cm long x 48 wide x 64 tall (3ft 4" x 1ft '7" x 2ft 1")
Easily carried by two persons - fold out handles - 'rickshaw' style
Petrol driven
Free 'training' on first hire
Serviced and tested for air quality (certificate provided) as part of despatch process
(Not 02 clean)
Min 3 day hire
?20 per day plus VAT

Should easily fit in small trailer (or back of estate?) - lets say inc. petrol that's about 10 fills per day to break even?

Slightly larger diesel version also available - 9.3 cfm - same price.

Christine,

How long would you need it for and waht kind of work is it gonna be getting.

I know of a group reasonably near Thanet who might be tempted to hire out a portable compressor to you. Post the details and I'll pass them on and see what they think.

All the best.

Angus

Thank you for all that. I'll follow it up. I did start with Google option before I posted the original message but trying to find the one relevant one from 790 hits was proving a problem. This forum has been far more helpful!

Hi Simon

Thanks for the reply.

What sort of compressor is it, how much work needs doing, is it serviceable at the moment & whereabouts are you?

Cheers
Chris
