Has any out there any experience of or advice about diving after having a ruptured ear drum repaired surgically. I have been diagnosed with a "micro perforation" but I want to continue diving. Finally can anyone recommend a surgeon to carry out the procedure.
i was diving in malta 2 years ago and my instructor had perforated ear s and he said you get used to the pian lol

Thanks for the reply, however pain is not the issue, it does not hurt. The problems are recurrent infections and the risk of permanent damage to the inner ear causing hearing impairment and disturbed balance.

I doubt that we can help you with a definitive answer.
Go see an ENT specialist, there probably is at least one who is on the uksdmc list (http://www.uksdmc.co.uk/main/Medical%20referees.htm) shown above.

Sorry I can't help. Will it not heal on it's own if it is a small perforation, providing it is not put under stress?
best wishes and hope you find your answer,
Maria
several years ago, i perforated my eardrum in cyprus, i'd finished my diving on the holiday, jumped into the hotel pool, bang, gone!
on my return to the uk, my gp diagnosed an ear infection, took antibiotics for three weeks, infection cleared up, only then did my gp diagnose ahole in the eardrum, referred to specialist, because of my diving, he decided to carry out a transplant of skin over the hole.
six weeks later, sat in my gown, specialist walks in with other specialists from manchester, leeds, bradford , hull, all to observe this op. he checked my ear, muttered a bit, and told me to get dressed, go home and resume diving!! the hole had repaired itself, even after three months.
hope if you have 'popped' your ear, don't give up, it can heal. and, there is an op out there that has a reasonable chance of working.
