Plus if you did make .08, see if you're in it.
FYI I thought you would like to know that the official EUROTEK.2010 Hotel will be the City Inn. It's a handy 5 - 8 minute stroll to the ICC, and it's a stunning gorgeous boutique hotel. The City Inn details can be found by following this link www.cityinn.com/birmingham/birmingham-hotels.htm
To reserve a room, quote EUR151010_002 to get single occupancy including Breakfast (worth £15 per head) and VAT @ £85 per night, or double/twin occupancy including Breakfast and VAT @ £95 per night.
If you don't want to stay here, Leigh has put umpteen hotel options on the website. http://www.eurotek.uk.com/accommodation.htm
Finally, thanks to BSAC for being a official EUROTEK.2010 Sponsor, it's very much appreciated.
More news coming soon.....
FYI the ticket line went live this afternoon, and we're already receiving ticket applications. The delegate places are limited because of fire numbers, so if you definately want to attend this year's event, I'd get registered sooner rather than later.

Forms filled in already :-)
Would like to go, but depends on diary at the time. I wish they would run the event as part of the dive show but maybe that's not possible, just would save me going to Brum twice in a month.
Thanks for the heads up.

I suppose it depends on what you want from the dive show, but for me, Eurotek was far better than any Brum dive show. It's divers talking and showing about diving. I'm way out of my depth on much of the diving, but is was still very interesting.

Darren if you're thinking of coming, I would suggest that you think quickly. My email server has melted because I've sold 1/8th of the tickets in the last 24 hours, so I wouldn't hang about if you definately want to attend as we can't guarantee that there will be tickets available on the door.
EUROTEK is organised by a completely different team and company to the people and team behind LIDS and DIVE 2010. All show organisers will tell you that picking a date is a nightmare. We ended up going with the 16th and 17th October because the UK diving season would pretty much have quietened down. And we needed to go in October because November is busy for the exhibitors with DEMA and Thanksgiving.
DIVE 2010 aka the Brum Dive Show is a good (primarily recreational) show to attend. You tend to see more equipment manufacturers there (compared to the London International Dive Show) and its a dream to get to by public transport.
EUROTEK is also a dream to get to by public transport but it's a completely different animal.
I suppose it depends on what you want from the dive show, but for me, Eurotek was far better than any Brum dive show.
As co-organiser of EUROTEK I'd have to go with "different" rather than "better".
It's divers talking and showing about diving. I'm way out of my depth on much of the diving, but is was still very interesting.
Absolutely! Adrian's pretty much got it in a nutshell. If you are curious about expanding your knowledge of diving, EUROTEK is a great event to attend. It's more a Conference with relevant companies exhibiting, than a big exhibition with some talks. Most of us who attend the seminars at EUROTEK walk in with a fair/good knowledge base, that gets stretched and then goes beyond what we know. So we end up learning new stuff - terribly exciting! And it really doesn't matter if you don't understand it all because you go away intellectually richer because you've learnt a new bit.
The other thing is that whilst there is a tiny bit of retailing at EUROTEK, primarily the companies are there to exhibit. They have brought their best staff to the show to stand and talk and advise you about the product or service they are supplying. They are not there to sell as much kit as they can. But to offer guidance and advice to people who are thinking of going that route. Getting advice without being sold to is invaluable.
So if you are after a (primarily) recreational show where you can talk to some manufacturers and buy stuff and hear a couple of talks, go to DIVE 2010. If you are seriously looking to expand your advanced diving knowledge and get advice about equipment, ie side slung harnesses, DPV's, lighting systems, rebreathers, et al. from the manufacturers then come to EUROTEK.
Me personally? I'm going to both!

Me personally? I'm going to both!
Roz would not say so but I will.
She came to the OzTek (http://www.diveoztek.com.au/exhibitormain.html) show last whenever it was ('09 I think). She contributed there, in fact and I took her for a (very long and enjoyable) lunch after the event. Why did she come all this way? She wanted to learn what Strike was doing right, actually Strike does most things right and I'm quite sure she learned a lot in the process.
That's the point. Strike runs a very technical show mostly without any hard sell at all and I suspect that EuroTek is much the same.
I've only been to one of Strikes renditions, as a guest actually but I dragged along a Scooooots diver out here at that time who paid full dollar. Now, we all know the Scooooots, they have moths in their wallets so making Carol pay is fair enough.
Oh dear, I think I'm in serious trubble, as always.
Thanks Roz (and Adrian),
Dont know if the dates will work till nearer the time but I may try and get there.
Thanks again for the info. If it wasn't on here I wouldn't have seen it.
Darren
Bless you Christian, you know how to make a girl smile! :)
Roz .......came to the OzTek (http://www.diveoztek.com.au/exhibitormain.html) show last whenever it was ('09 I think)....and I took her for a (very long and enjoyable) lunch after the event.
Yes Christian, it certainly was. The sea was covered in diamonds that day. A very happy memory.
I travelled to Oz not only to learn from Strike and to co-MC the event with Course Director Des Paroz, but to also see the talks. This sounds slightly mad, but actually the downside of organising EUROTEK is that you don't get to see any of the talks! (V. frustrating). And I REALLY wanted to hear Simon Mitchell talk, and I also listened to Carl Spencer, Rick Stanton and Jill Heinerth talk too. I don't regret it for one minute. I have promised myself I will watch Simon Mitchell's talks this year. Atleast one of them.
OzTek is happening again next March. 11th - 13th March to be precise. If you are in the area, I'd recommend attending it, because the talks are very good, and as Christian said, it's a well organised event. http://www.diveoztek.com.au/
G'Day, Roz

It doesn't sound 'slightly mad' to me ... it's one of the reasons for me making the trek over to EUROTEK. (The other is, of course, to see you and Leigh again ... and to catch up with a few old mates. I suppose things have changed 'slightly' since my last trip back - in 1990?) :)
Best regards
Strike
