Hi all,
The new "Dive Leading" manual is rather good & as DO I'm going to recommend ODs buy it before starting SD course...plenty there for their level.
BUT.....any (e.g. PADI OWs)joining would receive a crossover pack containing the entry level "The Diving Manual". This is a bit basic for qualified divers (who may own other agency manuals for reference), but it'd be expensive for them to buy the "Dive Leading" manual too (they're likely to do SD course soon after joining).......couldn't it be sold as part of the training pack instead of "The Diving Manual" from now on?
Cheers, Lindsey.

Fully agree with you a very good and useful book.

When I did the cross over from Padi Dive Master to BSAC i was very much interested in the Base BSAC level literature.
And i learned a lot from the Diving manuals (more the old one than new Book). Even i have known most of the skills described it was important to see the BSAC approach and reasoning to things. Always consider that a crossover may end up a BSAC instructor at some stage in the future.
A further point is that we do not want to scare off potential members by high initial costs (if they would be forced to get both books). They can always first borrow the book from an other member and than order it if they want or proceed in their training. (Thats what i did).

I am looking forward to the new books for the Advanced Diver and First Diver Levels. I hope i am not to optimistic here.

A combined book maybe, can't see there being separate books for each - don't think there's enough FCDs around to justify it. A general 'advanced' book might be interesting to have a look at though.

Quote: "Written by Deric Ellerby, the author of The Diving Manual, this complementary text is aimed to take just-qualified divers through to dive leaders and to act as a reference source for other diver grades. "

I took this last line to mean that "Dive Leading" was intended to replace the old OOP "Advanced Diving". Haven't seen it myself as yet so can somene say if it sufficiently advanced enough to fulfill such a role?

You have apoint David, as cost is always a factor a single "Advanced" Book may be what we should be asking for.
