View Full Version : How to convert to BSAC?
Could anyone please be so kind to advise what the conversion process and equivalent BSAC qualification would be for an experinced NAUI Instructor Trainer.
I am also an IANTD Technical Instructor, a HSE commercial offshore Diver Medic, IMCA Saturation Life Support Technician, ASHI First Aid Instructor, Red Cross Paramedic...
kind thanks

From:

You can cross over as a Dive Leader Equivilent,
And from:
http://www.bsac.org/learn/iip.htm
If you do the IFC, get the pack, and log 12 hours of BSAC OW Instructing, you can cross over as an OWI.

You don't say where you live but I'm sure you could be a massive benifit to any branch and also to the Regional Coaching Team.
Why not contact HQ 01513506200, ask for Technical and either Alistair, Jim or Mike will aim you in the right direction.
Or go onto the Regions web site for you area and find a contact name there, best of luck and see you around sometime

Good advice above.
But first visit your local branches and see how you are received, all should welcome you with open arms, but not all will (unfortunately).
All the best and welcome to BSAC.

I would suggest talking to your regional coach first. You look like a useful person for any branch or region to know, and they may be able to suggest a branch near you (and help you should you encounter any local politics with your qualification cross over).
Welcome to BSAC!
John
Thank you to all of you for your tremendous response and good advice.
I have been in contact with the Putney branch of the BSAC in London, near to where I live, and have been fortunate to have met with some outstanding characters. Despite having lived in London for over 8 years off and on, I had my first BSAC club gathering last Tuesday evening, and beyond my wildest expectations met some fantastic honest-to-goodness down-to-earth people. I have to say I was very impressed with the level of personality and diver indeed. Without the slightest hint of politics, my wife and I were very well received indeed. What a tremendous bunch of ambassadors these guys and girls are for the BSAC!
My wife and I are off on holiday in a few weeks for our anniversary, and were looking for a facility to be able to get into the pool to check our gear and revise our skills. Despite many a contact around London, unbelievably it proved most difficult indeed to find anywhere who would welcome 2 strangers for a simple pool session despite the fact that we are both most experienced and widely travelled indeed. The team at Putney BSAC, like a breath of fresh air, couldn?t do enough to offer their hospitality and bend over backwards to make us feel welcome.
I have over 16 years dive experience worldwide, 9 years of which have been in Instructing to high level. I am in the process of working with the guys I met to arrange just how I do a conversion to BSAC and get up to National Instructor level, etc. I anticipate it will be a fun filled adventure, I'll learn tons in the process, and make a whole bunch of tremendous new mates in the process. Actually I'm quite excited about it all...
Purely because of the kindness of the guys and girls we?ve met, we?ve been motivated to convert to BSAC and have been introduced to a most excellent group of extreme dive nutters much like ourselves. What a relief it is to find somewhere where we feel most welcome and feel like we might fit in.
3 cheers for Putney BSAC! 3 cheers for the magic of diving!
kind regards
Dennis

Thanks for getting back to us Dennis, I'm glad we could help you. Thank you Putney BSAC as well, it looks like you've just increased your membership and you are a credit to the BSAC!

Hey Dennis,
Good on ya mate - if anyone can make it to National Instructor, it's gonna be you, especially given your background ;-)
For anyone else reading this, Dennis has unparalleled experience on diving virtually all of the coasts off southern Africa, so for first-hand advice and contacts, speak to him, he's very free and approachable with his time and help. He'll be a credit to Putney SAC and the BSAC in general.
Next time I'm in the smoke, we'll catch up for that beer.
Cheers,
Bren.
Thanks for your support as always Bren, no doubt I owe you a whole beer truck of lager after those kind words...
regards
Dennis
