Hi, im new to diving and this is my first post on the forum.

Ive just completed my ocean diver course

Myself and another friend are heading to Australia for 6 Months and landing in Melbourne

Ive read that BSAC have a really good guy out there called Stu Cannon who runs a dive shop in Melbourne. Does anyone have any contact details for him or a website i could visit. I have searched all over and couldnt find one.

I would really like to a little bit of diving with someone who is familiar with BSAC when I arrive as I am only new to the sport, and I undertsand the majority of dive schools in AUS are PADI.

Any help much apprecciated

Hi peterb2642,

Suggest that you contact one of the BSAC branches in Melbourne, i.e. Melbourne BSAC and Bass Strait Aquatics Clug. Their contact details are on bsac.com or alternatively can be found by web search engine. Stu Cannon's contact details are also on bsac.com in a list of technical instructors, I think.

Regards

Thanks David,

Neil here, DO for the Bass Straits branch, melbourne :-)

When you landing?? what you bringing with you? and how much experience you got??? oh and what do you want to dive?? we've reef, wrecks, walls, shores whatever,,, plus cold water :-)

N

ps Stu is the National Instructor here, not a dive shop owner...

Landing saturday 23rd January, so not long.

Just finished my ocean diver, with 6 dives deepest of which was 19 metres. I am basically only bringin my mask, snorkel, fins and dive computer keeping it limited due to weight restrictions.

Being pretty new to diving ill pretty much dive anything within my limits. I havent got much experience but would say myself and my friend who is coming are pretty confident, I dont mean that in a cocky way but as long as its within the depth limit i would like to try as many different types as possible.

As for cold water, did my training in a semi dry in mainly 8 celcius water temp so im sure ill manage.

Any suggestions for diving in melbourne would be really helpful?

And a report from the area on your time in Oz for BSAC Travel would be much appreciated :D

Even though you haven't mentioned a quick jaunt to the GBR or, for that matter, anywhere in the Far North of Oz, don't do it at that time.

If the Cyclone (think hurricanes) doesn't get you, the Big Wet will.

But I fear that this is too late.

Look, give me a call on 0410816090 or www.bsac.org.au

There is some great diving, and i'd suggest for ease, looking up these people:
