hi everone iam looking into starting diving having done a few dives on hols, not looking to scour the ocean bottom just to dive now and again , and hope to enjoy it, getting a wetsuit seems hard as i did alot of weight training before and have large chest for my height, will i have to get one made or does the length not matter as much??

Hi Pwags and welcome.

I take it you are planning on just diving abroad if you want a wetsuit?

There are made to measure fairly readily available but different manufacturers 'cuts' of wet suit are good for different people. Some do lots more variations of heights/widths etc. Some are stretchier than others too which can help if one area if proportionately larger. A wet suit that is too long is really annoying as a rule so better to get one that fits.

You'll probably find someone will suggest a make that will fit your proportions best. I've had a mtm from Namron before.

What thickness of suit are you considering? A 3mm stretches much more than a thicker one.

best wishes,

Maria

Deep blue are doing 7mm steamers for £90 at the mo, seemed a good price to me!.

If you're wanting to use it for UK def get one that fits well!

Sorry, not an expert on men's wetsuit shapes. I'd suggest though looking around the local dive shops that stock different manufacturers suits and by trying on you'll start to get a feel of what body-shape they are cut to.

My DH is broad of shoulder and chest with skinny... sorry.. lean legs... and was very happy with the fit of a Cressi superstretch of some sort.

I wouldn't be too keen on 5mm in UK but I feel the cold, perhaps with a shorty over the top.....

I love my dive skin for nice warm water!:)

best wishes,

maria
