Ship Runs aground on Woodhous Reef Sharm

Regular visitors to Sharm El Sheikh may be interested to hear that a large container ship has run aground after colliding with Woodhouse reef in the Straits of Tiran.

This very popular dive site has been out of bounds since the ship struck around mid day 31st December.

Its reported that if the ship can't be repaired that it will be floated away and sunk. This would make a very popular atraction for divers visiting Sharm!!!

Sorry Maria: I'm not up to speed with using these forums, but getting to grips with it to keep people informed about this one.

Goes to show my lack of forum ability. There's a link to my photos on other forums and I didn't put it on them. As I live in Sharm I'm trying to keep people up to date with events. I'll be visiting the area again tomorrow (10th Jan). In the mean time, Google,
update 4 : Ship crashed and hits Woodhouse Reef, for up to date pictures, as I can't put them on this site for some reason.

You're a bit late Alun, they pulled her off the reef yesterday, 3 tugs.......

and she was never "out of bounds", if you look on You Tube there is a film from someone who dived it 5 days ago.

Good news that the ship has been pulled off the reef. Dread to think what the reparations for the company will be. Was it the QE who hit a reef in the Gulf of Aqaba awhile ago? What did she get fined?

Very good news Eddie, When we left the area on the afternoon of the 8th.There were two tugs in the area. Sounds as if they were waiting for the third to turn up if Steve is right. It had disappeared today that's for sure.

We were stopped diving near it by a police boat on the 3rd but I was impressed at the video that was taken. He must have sneaked in somewhere or the police were on their break at the time or they just relaxed their policing.

A massive sigh of releif that the ship has left the area. Johan Kean no doubt will give us the correct information on the outcome. I know he has been researching things through the correct chanels and not just hearsay.
