View Full Version : High pressure swivel and lubricant
High pressure swivel and lubricant ..
Hi .. After some advice please
1) Can anyone advise a cheap source of High pressure swivels (Looks like £3 to £4 from a quick search and this just seems a bit steep to me) ..
2) What sort of lubricant should be used on the high pressure swivel, and where is good to get this from.
3) Is it the same as the lubricant one would use for the regulator swivels, if not what do we use there and again where is good to get this ..
I am just swapping out some hoses for MiFlex, hence the questions. I would rather buy from my LDS but would just like some advice re this to compare etc..
Any advice appreciated .. :)

You have just bought miflex hoses and you are complaining about £3 for a swivel which is a pretty important bit. Blimey would love to be in your household this weekend :D

Why don't you steal the swivels as well then?

I'm a bit confused here (nothing unusual in that).
What do you mean by swivels? Those bits that allow you to adjust a 1st Stage (at the expense of at least one extra failure point), or the itty bitty baby O Rings that seal the HP hose - or something else entirely?

I'm assuming that the OP means these:

OP - please correct if wrong.
I use only O2 grease on everything now. Swivel O rings are BS002 or BS003 about £1.25/100

Do you have a cheap source of O2 grease?
Do you have a cheap source of O2 grease? No! It's bloody pricey but IIRC AP and Beaver do little pots which will last you ages.
Otherwise a small toothpaste tube sized portion is about £30 from DiveEx in Aberdeen.

Thanks... Yes thats the one .. I am referring to that whole assembly not just the O rings ..
Just to echo everyone elses comments, and to say that I wouldn't expect a hose to come with a swivel, but I would expect a gauge to come with one.

Thanks to all ..
That is very helpful
One last thing ..
Is there anything else I should be aware of when lubricating such things, such as places not to lubricate or places that need particular attention ..
Thanks

Only use the smallest spidgeon of grease. And when doing up the hose, use two spanners on the two 'nuts'. Don't be tempted to use a single spanner and the gauge.
If you've not done it before, why not get someone who has show you how down t'club?
Janos
Cool ..
Thanks for all the help
Yep that confirms what I thought was correct .. :)
