What's the general feeling on a new look car sticker for the Club.

I stil have my Circa 1996 one in my window! - But AFAIK it has not been updated for years.

Car Dealers are always adverstising themselves on your back window - Why not the best dive club in the world?

Also what about a Green Gas Diamond with the BSAC logo on - PR is a very powerwful tool.

IMVHO it must include the WWW.BSAC.COM logo as well to get more visitors to the site.

Just a thought.

Personally I don't put anything on the car which identifies it belongs to a diver. It's an invitation to thieves.

We had a club member working in a sign makers who produced some magnetic Gas diamonds with the club logo. They prooved very popular.

Dont put a green diamond sticker on your car if carrying cylinders unless you comply fully with the ADR/CDG road regs. You must have written emergency instructions on the vehicle at all times, two fire extingushers, warning triangles (x2) and reflective jackets for all occupents of the vehicle. Also the diamond must be 250mm along each side. You must also have a valid ADR licence for the class of goods being carried. Failure to comply can carry a fine. Best bet, use the exemption available for non work use, and dont try to comply with some of the regs. No sticker = no problem

Ah, but I do comply with the legislation...
I used to be an ADR qualified driver so if things have changed I apologise, however,
As I understand it compressed air is class 2.2 (non-flamable, non-toxic gas) and therefore ADR regs only apply if you are carrying either cylinders larger than 25 litres (unlikely unless you are a *really* heavy breather!) or more than 500litres worth of tanks. Not a problem unless you are carrying *many* tanks for a club. As a result of this we are exempt from ADR regulations due to the small quantities we carry.
The compressed gas diamond is, however allowed (according to firemen I spoke to) as a courtesy measure so that if emergency services come across a vehicle, particularly in the event of fire, in they may have some warning of the increased danger.

Apart from that I would personally strongly reccommend everyone to leave at least a couple of Hi Vis jackets in their car (I have seen people come VERY close to being run over after a breakdown) and at least one decent fire extinguisher.

If however you are carrying "flammable Gas" such as oxygen then the rules change and I'd need to check up to be sure!!
Of course all of the above is a legal minefield however the chances of you being prosecuted for over-complying with what you are required to do are extremely remote imho (and that of the firemen I consulted)
Stay safe out there!

In the 1970's divers hit a bit of a public image problem, with some communities in Cornwall attempting to buy their beaches from the council so they could ban divers.
Part of the campaign to counter this from BSAC was a set of car stickers. One said

'You're safer with a diver on the beach'

Referring to the fact that ALL divers were trained in life saving skills and have boats to rescue people and made beaches safer for bathers.
I like the idea, so let?s get some out. Something like

'BSAC divers do it deeper'

or

'BSAC divers do it longer'

and even revitalise the old one above

'You're safer with a BSAC diver on the beach'

I like the 'for divers, not for profit' line that is being used at the moment, hits the spot.

on a totally personal point. Hows the course going Richie? and as a clerk are you entitled to an opinion?

Not for BSAC exactly but what about,
"SADS" doing it, despite the rules!

Oxygen is not a flamable gas, if it was it would carry a red triangle class 2.? (sorry must look it up in the UN red book). But BOC cylinders I have carry a standard green triangle for a compressed gas. Techinally O2 is not an oxididizer so does not need a yellow class 5.1? although it often has one as a secondary hazard.

Just got a bit too much time on my hands at the moment.

Cheers all

Check out the BSAC technical section for the 'Official' line.
