Mike Dilger presenter meets the seals of the Farnes underwater... and looks into seal / fisherman conflicts
Trailer >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQEkjqieC6U
BBC1 Monday 12th "Inside Out" NE region only 7.30pm - 8pm
Just keep in mind...
North Sea had a TUNA industry in the 1930/40s
North Sea had a MACKEREL industry in the 1950/60s
North Sea had a HERRING industry in the 1960/70s
Wiped out by greedy overfishing, purse seine nets etc ...certainly NOT seals!!
Seals take <1% of total stock biomass in North Sea
Overfishing with industrial factory ships is the reason for the collapse of so many fish stocks.... cod may well be next!
Industrial fishing is removing 100s of thousands of tonnes of sandeel from the base of the food chain (the Danes then use this for animal feed and even "biofuels"!!!).
Birds and seals and fish are suffering as a result.
The underwater footage was shot off the Longstone and near to the Knoxes reef at the Farnes.
Hope you enjoy,
Safe diving,
