HI

Rotherham BSAC 41 who train in Sheffield Rd Baths Rotherham, is looking for a new home.
The pool has been closed ready for bulldozing.
We are looking for a new pool in the rotherham area...
Any of youout there in a club with a pool who maybe would like to share costs etc ?
We will be approaching as many pools as we can think of to get us back in the water as soon as we can so we dont start loosing members :(

anyone else been in this situation before ?

Wolfy ...

Yep, been there.

How much notice did you have, could the search have started earlier? Schools, colleges, some companies/organisations have their own pool. You may have to move to a less convenient time if you find one. We did.

no notice what so ever...turned up at our first meeting after the christmas break to find locked closed gates.
To be fair ive since spoken to Rotherham council who say they will do their best to offer us "relocation options"
hopefully we wont be dry for too long !

Odd that no notice was given, that local newspapers knew nothing. This is usually the kind of thing that gets the local population up in arms. They did well to keep it quiet. Have they made staff redundant, thinking staff notice here?

Good luck in your hunt.

Hi Wolfy,

Studley BSAC 1277 have had a similar problem in the last couple of years when our pool was closed for "redevelopment" which took 12 months and then less than six months after it was reopened was closed again cos the contractors botched the job.

We managed to work with the local council and found temporary pool time at a school but this was some miles away.

We also found that when we eventually moved back the prices for pool time have increased by over 60% and this is now calling into question if we can afford to keep the pool on.

What happened was that membership numbers dropped because we were not "at home", we decided not to push for trainees whilst we were in the temporary pool and we are now suffering the consequences with reduced subscription income.

Do eveything you can to retain your members and keep the new ones coming in.

Good Luck

Martin

Turns out when the staff went back in after the holidays, there had been a "massive" water loss, problems with the boilers, structeral work and electrical work to be done.
The total bill, put against only a 2 or 3 year left life span of the pool meant the council decided to shut rather than spend.

As i said earlier Rotherham Council are going to do their best to relocate us and all the other clubs that regularly used the pool.

Martin...i agree on the trainee point you made...unfortunatly we already have 1 possible member who was about to join up and begin..now probably moving somewhere else because of this pool problem.

ill keep you posted :)
