I've just watched the news of the air crash at Sharm-el-sheik John. You recently mentioned that you'd just dived the Carnatic, and I wondered if you were OK.

Thanks Andy. I have just spent Christmas with my wife and kids and am now packing my bags for the next trip, that is after next week in a fresh water site. Brrrr.
Touched as I am for your concern , let us spend a few moments to think of the 141 people who have not survived, their families and friends.
Air disasters are thankfully infrequent but always spectacularly awful.

Indeed, it's very sad to hear.
I'm glad to hear you weren't involved.
(I just remembered the Carnatic and put 2 and 2 together and made 5)

Some snippets I have gleaned off the radio..

The charter airline operating the 737 was 'Flash'
It had flown into Sharm with Italian tourists, and was travelling to France via Cairo with a party of French tourists.

Flash have been banned from overflying Swiss airspace for safety violations, and have been banned from Helsinki and Finnish airspace for maintenance/safety violations.

My condolances to all the relatives of the victims.

Is there some way us public can find out what the record of our charter operators is like?

In direct response to your last point, yes, there is public access to information relating to the licencing status of UK registered airlines, I enclose the link to the CAA. Just browse the headings to find what you need.

My deepest heartfelt condolances go to my compatriotes who lost friends and relatives through this tragic event.
