...or rather, lack of any...?
I've attended four SDC's over the past 12 months, and have to say the paperwork we get with them isn't really up to much. For example, on the boat handling course we simply got a photocopied sheet from the highways agency about towing trailers...
The SDC's are generally excellent, and a snip at ?12. But I'd gladly spend a few more quid to have a decent set of notes to go with each one...?
Any plans to provide these at some point....?
Ta!

I'm suprised at your comments - I have done quite a few SDC's
in the last 2 years. I was always given a folder with many pages
of notes/ related info. This was essential if you were doing Advanced diver via the previous syllabus because you had a theory test but no theory lectures.
I did my boathandling SDC as RYA PB2 with a BSAC school in Portland. I recall getting the BSAC notes/SDC sticker and loads of RYA & RNLI booklets etc as part of the deal. Sounds like you've ben had mate

I agree: I have had a full set of notes to accompany each SDC, handed out at the end of the relevant course.
Some of the SDC's can be found under Technical Publications on the Members' Page, and of these, you will find the instructor notes and slides of many of the SDC's (not boat handlingthough - I think this is in the process of being revamped, as was stated in Saturday's DOC).

Me too. I've done a fair few SDCs and thought the materials were more than adequate, I certainly wouldn't think it was worthwhile to pay extra for something more "glossy".
Also I thought the BSAC nitrox course books (both basic and advanced) were as good if not better than comparable materials (eg TDI Nitrox)

Thanks for the comments all. We're slowly working through the SDC's reviewing a lot of the documentation, it is possible that the person receiving the poor quality handouts -
i) We might not have done that one yet
ii) It could have been some of the older photocopied stock we had
They would have got the latest information, but the presentation might not have been very good.
Thank you all for the comments relating to more recent material. We no longer issue photocopies for new courses, we now have some very efficient laser copier/printers at HQ which have saved us a small fortune in outsourcing printing and time/quality of photocopies. The SDC handouts that you get now have all been individually printed to-order (it's solved our stock problems!) using these high quality printers, as we work through the SDC's revising the material they should get even better.
Thanks for the comments though, we took note of comments some time back about the poor quality of handouts and tried to do something about it for you. Nice that you've noticed :-)
