I notice that the powers at be have had the good sense this year and brought the DOC forward a week as not to clash with the Cynon Valley SAC Christmas Party
They were warned last year but did not listen
It obviously affected their attendance
The CVSAC Do was on the other hand a complete sell out as well as being one hell of a good night. more than one person was heard to comment that their life would never be the same again
While on the subject tickets for this years do are available at ?3-50 a go ( yes thats right ?3-50 a go) not ?33-00 (inc buffet) for some stuffy old presentations.
Go on enjoy yourself it is Christmas(well nearly) after all
Tickets Available from members, tickets@cynondivers.co.uk
or the usual agents. Warning do not buy them from the internet as last year there were a few forgeries around and some people were disappointed

Maybe for you but not for us. BSAC in their wisdom chose a weekend with NEAP tides and we are booked on a dive. Hmmmm choice between talking about diving and doing it??????
No competition we'll be diving.
Come on BSAC get it together. In fact why don't you have it in January when all the celebrations are over and on a Spring Tide

Right on Derek
While they are at it perhaps they can do something about the price and people may go

I'm not too worried about the DOC timing, and whatever weekend you choose, someone is going to have a dive booked...

The AGM, however, has had much smaller attendance than the DOC on the occasions I have managed to get there. Could this be that it is at the start of the main part of the diving season?

What do you think of having a short year and move the AGM to Feb/Mar and then keep it there. Would that make anyone out there (apart from me) more likely to attend?

We do at least try to hit springs weekends now ;-) It's not quite as simple as moving the date, it ties in with the statutary requirements under the companies act, circulation of accounts etc. etc. We have looked at it, to move it would mean moving the BSAC financial year end, that would involve two sets of audit and accounts within a year, two lots of tax returns... If it were simple we would have done it!

My original thread was not meant to be taken that seriously just a way to remind people about our night out. However since you have responded so will I. What ever the reason for the timing of the DOC, 33 QUID (inc sandwich and a piece of fruit)
on top of travel and parking. You have got to be kidding.
Bet you are not paying.
And if you are you have more money than sense

I can't go as I will not be home in time for pop idol and casualty.
Pity the BSAC didn't have as much consideration as the BBC and ITV have you noticed Pop Idol is always finished in time for Casualty. And Eastenders and Corrie are never on at the same time Good on you TV Execs

I know :-) I think that everybody took it in the spirit intended, I only answered a specific question about the AGM.

We price it to cover costs, we do make a small profit which is ploughed back into the club, it is treated as a communication vehicle and a service and not as a revenue earner. Have you tried hiring London venues are getting weekend caterring for hundreds in London? That's what it costs! We use ULU becuase it is actually very good VFM.

No I do not pay for DOC/AGM as it is expected by many that Council be there, we are very much "at work" at these events, just as I was at the NEC all day today. (Yesterday now, my day working for the BSAC started at around 08:00 this morning, I got back to my in-laws 11 hours later, home at around 10:00). One hell of a lot of work on behalf of the BSAC is carried out at such events, just don't expect me to pay for the privelege as well! :-)

No, I'm NOT complaining Mark, I'm just telling you how it is and trying to show you the other side of the coin - ask anybody who volunteers to help the club, your coaches, your ITS instructors... they will all tell you the same story. For the record yes I have paid personally for AGM/DOC/show attendance in the past and will willingly do so again in the future, they are damn good days out, - when it's for =ME= and I'm not spending my entire day working for you lot :-) [That is said in the spirit of your original posting Mark, please take it that way]

Keith
I know the score I am involved with coaching and the ITS scheme and on top of this I personally am not prepared to pay 33 quid plus travel and parking and food(sanwich and fruit is not enough for me). Perhaps a venue outside London may be more ecconomical after all it is not in the middle of the country is it
Cheers
