Just returned from Turkey where I got a couple of days diving in (my first "proper" dives after training).
First day, first dive, I got something wrong and didn't deflate the BCD properly - I think a clip came undone and it sort of formed an air pocket (I should have used the dump valve but I was in a bit of a panic trying to fin down). I ended up over-exerting myself and I also got dehydrated and felt pretty cr*p.
Second dive I still felt really rough so I reluctantly decided to miss it, get a lot of water down and have a kip; I drank two litres and got half an hour shuteye.
Third dive I felt ok so I went but was overweighted and got my bouyancy all wrong, ended up guzzling all my air again and had to go back early :(

I didn't give up though, booked for a second day the following week but asked if I could buddy with one of the divemasters and try and sort out my weighting/bouyancy/air use.
I did all 3 dives, first one got the weighting sorted; second and third we worked on my bouyancy and finning technique (he said I was finning far too much).
I still used too much air but I felt that I was getting there, just need a bit more work/practice.

To top it off though, I managed to get seasick on little more than a metre of swell and threw up on the way home :(

All in all, a mixed bag but left me determined to get more time in (although sea diving in the UK is out at the moment).

Its good when its good though all this diving lark :) dont get dishearten, i just moved over to manifolded 12's and feel like a pool training trainee again (only been out in them twice).

We all have good and bad days and dives, but glad to hear some of it went well and that you over came the bad bits.

Enjoy your diving

Stick at it! See how much you learned on those trips! It'll get better, many good days and a few off days too.

Happy diving!:D

Over-exertion isnt likely to cause dehydration directly. Far more likely its a CO2 headache from too much finning and struggling against too much weight which makes you feel crappy. Sort out finning and weighting then concentrate on the rest and it'll be fine.
