Hi
I am looking for advice on dive holidays in the maldives this august - preferably leaving this weekend!

I have 40 dives and am bsac sports diver qualified but 6 years ago and will need to do some retraining. My wife has done a try-dive but that's all - though she's very keen!

Where would be a good centre to go for 14 days diving and snorkelling with a house reef for lazy types?! - not liveaboard.

Any advice welcome - could be a bsac centre or padi - not fussed - never been there and don't want to make a mistake - it's a long way compared to our usual trips to France!

Thanks in anticipation

It is wednesday and you want to go this weekend, doesn't really matter where is recommended they might not have vacancies. Choose a nice looking island and you will be fine, there will be dive centres on nearly all of the resorts but they won't be BSAC.

Enjoy you trip

Check where the moonsoon is currently hitting. When we flew out in June we landed in Male (the centre of the Maldives chain) and suffered some quite torrential rain storms. We flew south to pick up a liveaboard and basically ran away from the weather. We did have some rain (which was pretty violent), but not as much or so regularly as on Male.

I'm not sure what weather conditions would be like up there at the moment, but i can highly recommend Prodivers on Kuredu - they are an excellent dive centre and the island is great - has a few more things going on than some so anyone not wanting to dive all the time has other things to do apart from just lie on a beach!

Which island are you going to? Have a look at the islands website, it often has a link to the diver section, and you can then contact them direct for information on costs ect.

There are a few dive companies attached to islands, so prices can vary depending on the island you are going to.

All prices are in US dollar, and you sign for the dives, and then settle your bill at the end of your stay.

If you need to take any dive equipment with you, make sure you arrange this with the airline in advance, as they may charge you if you do not pre-arrange.

The diving is excellent, and well worth the experience!
