View Full Version : filthy mask !
ok ok so i should make sure my mask is clean and dry after each dive....i know i should....but i dont ....consquence ?
well a mask that has horrible black bits "growing" along the inside "rim" line..what im wondering is..is there anything i can soak my mask in to get ALL the muck and filth from the nucks and crannies ?
i was thinking of maybe "Milton" or something like that ?
any ideas out there ?
thanks in advance :)

From looking at the mask of anyone I've dived with, I think this is a fairly ubiquitous problem (self included!).
I've found that if you have a very powerful shower (or hose) you can seperate the seal from the mask lens just enough to get rid of the crud that lurks in there. They're fairly robust and will take a bit pulling (obviously I take no responsibility ;)

:Hi,
Soaking your mask in a very dilute solution of bleach over night should do the trick.

Masks can usually be taken apart - just break it up into its component bits and give it a good scrubbing.
The stuff doesn't stick firmly enough for it to cause any problems.
That said, I scrubbed mine in trigene cleaner when I last had to take it apart and clean it.
Makes an amazing difference - mask suddenly looks like new!

Try a rinse in fresh water and hang up to dry before putting away after each dive, short, simple, easy, cheap, no hassle clean mask:-)

a mask that has horrible black bits growing inside rim
Sounds very familiar:
Try an overnight soak in a weak solution of Stardrops and then rinse off under cold tap in morning - you will be amazed how much grime comes out.

Bleach works fine, but the masks mists up like mad afterwards for a while.
