Does anybody know a good place to get diving insurance (IDEX cover etc) without the need to take annual travel insurance at the same time?

I used Dive Master and they were seperate items. Admittedly I wanted Annual international travel cover but it was a seperate item I ticked and a seperate item on the final bill.

Hi

I have seen a couple of options for just Dive Insurance, BUT check the level of cover as I have found this to be very limited i.e. only a few thousand ?? worth of cover. You should look for at least ?1,000,000 worth of cover. Well you would if it was Travel Insurance so why any diffrent for diving insurance.

Try Westfield Insurance www.divinginsuranceuk.com or call them on 0870 830 8186.

It is a full travel policy but then at least you dont have to worry about getting the travel insurance else where and then topping it up with dive insurance that will only be very limited anyway.

Regards.

I'm suprised how many divers report for recompression treatment outside the EU without adequate insurance. Anyone experiencing DCI can expect around 20 hrs of treatment over say 4 days. This, coupled with flight changes, addition days in hotel/hospital (inc travel partner) results in a bill equal to the price of a mid-range CAR!!

The Divers Alert Network offer adequate cover for as little as GBP 43.00 p/a. My policy has already paid for itself. I was "poleaxed" by dengue fever* last summer and DAN paid the bill.

A link to DAN is below. Further details re Diving Emergencies in the far east should appear under "Thailand" shortly (I submitted a 1000 word article to bsac 2 weeks ago).

*(Regular readers will realise i'm a bit on the B-I-G side, but here's an anecdote for all)....A week after discharge from Hospital my wife had a phonecall from her family. I listened to the Thai/Cambodian dialect and realised they were worried about my weight loss. When I asked Mook to explain she came out with this howler.....

"Mama was worried cos you lost 6kgs,I told her no problem;you found them already!!"

Dave, Dave, Dave,

You are so right on this one - You are definatly on the V-B-I-G side. This is a classic line i will be passing on to several people in the near future and i think it may well crop up at the next Regimental reunion, Quebec Day is approaching rapidly, as is the hangover on the day after Quebec Day.

Obviously everyone will be concerned over your ill health and weight loss and we will have a few beers while we contemplate your demise.

What about the hair loss? Did Mook have an answer on that one?

Regards, and waiting in anticipation of another qualtity one liner.

Ollie,

I'm unable to attend but Bob Keen leaves here on 20th Aug.

Re my delicate frame, I cycle to work most days and often take a long route home (10-15 kms). This island is about the size of the IOW and I once cycled the 61kms in 3.5 hrs...........but I still look like an Elephant on a skateboard!!
