my (new) dive computer comes with a set of instructions which includes the adivce to avoid repetitive square profiles to the same, or nearly the same, depth. This is stated to be an unsafe diving practice. Does anyone know why this is? I can't find advice elsewhere on the BSAC site.

Can't find my BSAC-88 Tables, but from the "safer Diving" section of the Nitrox Tables:
"The maximum reccomended depth for sports diving using air is 50m and when carrying out two or more dives in one day perform the deepest dive first"

In responding to the previous thread, I noticed that the Nitrox Tables state:
"...observe the recommended ascent speeds 15m/min to 6m and then 1 minute to the surface"
I though the recommended ascent rate to 1st stop was 10m/min???

Nope, the BSAC-88 Tables work on a 15m per minute ascent rate

Thanks for the reply - I know that the tables and indeed the training has indicated that you should do the deeper diver first. I guess I was after some understanding about why repeat square profile dives at the similar depths was a no no. The dive computer instructions say that this causes an increased risk of dci no matter what the computer is registering.
The BSAC88 tables don't seem to repeat this advice other than say do the deeper one first. I guess it is to do with the way the nitrogen and tissues interact under repeat loading

Ascent rate can be what you want it to be within limits,15 being the ADVISABLE MAXIMUM......I Ascent at about 8 mts/min to MY FIRST stop, NOT 6 meters FFS.
